Engen Corporate Affairs Volunteer Team took up the challenge of improving the exterior of the Noncedo EduCare in Mfuleni in just 1-day!

Noncedo EduCare is a well managed centre with 49 children in the care of Pinky Rolomana, the principal.

This initiative formed part of the Engen Conference and proved to be an excellent team building event. The weather was perfect. The staff was spirited and there was a lot of banter and fun amongst the team. The standard of the work was high and the finished product – stunning!

Pinky, her staff and all the children went to the Bugz PlayPark located on the N1 while Engen’s team were hard at work in the hot sun. On the children’s return, their smiling faces made all the sweat and hard work worthwhile.

It took this dedicated Engen team 5-hours to paint the exterior of the 4-classroom buildings; paint the interior of their vibrecrete wall; create a vegetable garden and paint the tyres around the play structure. Contractors laid pavers; spread gravel and fixed the play structure.

Last night Hilda de Beer went to the Ritz Hotel to acknowledge receipt of 7 brand new children’s bicycles which were constructed during the Oxford Press team build initiative that Joe from TeamUp organized.

They are stunning and we know that the children will be overjoyed with their gift.

They will be given to them at the TeamUp / Masigcine makeover in a couple of weeks time.

Engen Corporate Affairs Volunteer Team has taken up the challenge of improving the exterior of the Noncedo EduCare in Mfuleni.

Noncedo EduCare

NEWKIDZ on the block have been connected to this EduCare for a number of years helping with maintenance and donations. It is a well run centre with 49 children under the management of Pinky Rolomana.

The Engen team have a plan of action to paint the exterior of the 4-classroom buildings; paint the interior of their vibrecrete wall; create a vegetable garden and pave the grounds which are currently sandy.

This is a one-day project and we are very excited to be partnering with this dynamic company to help improve the environment for these children from the Mfuleni community.

Its wonderful for us to get involved with a wonderful organization, Rainbow House,who is doing incredible transformation work within our communities in need.

They will be hosting a DO IT DAY on Saturday, 17th March, from 9am to 4pm. They need volunteers for this project. You are welcome to come for one or two hours or for the entire day!

Tasks:

•  Garden: Lawn mowed. Flower beds weeded.
•  Roof gutters to be cleaned of excess leaves.
•  Roof to be cleaned
•  Between ceiling and roof to be cleaned.
•  Windows washed – inside and out
•  Centre holder of Curtain rods to be fixed.
•  Cut hoops in curtains and attaché eyelets – making it lighter on the rod
•  Stitch tie backs to curtains OR stich a loop at the back of the curtains
•  Shelves in kitchen need fixing
•  Sliding door in Garage needs to be fixed
•  Outside geezer needs fixing
•  Holder for hosepipes – front and back
•  Tidy up back yard
•  Our trampoline at the front of house
•  Have an extractor for guest bathroom – it needs to be fitted
•  Attach safety net for trampoline
•  Attach cover for sand pit
•  Remove all rubble

We are ecstatic about the incredible generosity of so many kindhearted people, organizations and communities getting involved in NEWKIDZ on the block in so many ways.

Whether its through volunteering time, donations of  money or goods, sharing and liking a post, retweeting or just being a fan of ours showing your support, we appreciate every single effort  made by all to help us in our mission to establish loving homes for orphaned and destitute children.

Heatherdale Children’s Home Needs Your Help.

Recently a corporate painted stunning murals on the vibrecrete walls at the Heatherdale Children’s Home however due to time constraints, there was insufficient time to finish off the finer detail.

This is an immense stretch of wall … 255 vibrecrete panels and we are asking for you to come and help us complete this task. volunteer now

General Information:

Regarding your time slot – the time you applied on your application form is the time we will be expecting you. If, by any chance, you are unsure, please call Hilda on 0798755745. We are really counting on you being there and are planning accordingly so please don’t let us down by not arriving. In the case of an emergency, please let us know so that we can make adequate arrangements in your absence.

Please arrive on time.

On arrival, please park on the inside of the property.

This is an outside project so it is naturally weather dependent. If the weather turns bad we will notify you during the week of alternative arrangements.

Bring warm, old clothing (you are going to get dirty) and comfortable shoes. If you have a sensitive skin, please bring sunscreen and a hat with you as this is an outdoor project.

We will not be held responsible for your valuables i.e. Cell phones, handbags, wallets etc. while on site, so best to leave them locked in your car.

Due to the location it would be best to bring a snack with you to nibble on. We recommend that you also bring along a 2L bottle of frozen water that will keep your thirst quenched throughout your shift.

Report to the Registration Desk when you arrive for duty. Here you will sign in, receive a name tag, and meet your Team Leader. This person will be your guide throughout your shift and will answer all questions and queries you may have regarding the work you are assigned to do.

Please bear in mind that this is a sweat-equity project which means that you are investing your time and effort voluntarily to improve the lives of others. We also need you to please work neatly and tidily. Please make sure that, if you accidentally mess, to make it your responsibility to clean up. Remember that everything has it’s place and that everything should be in it’s place so that others don’t have to waste time looking for it.

Heatherdale Children’s Home – vibrecrete project

It was a hot afternoon on Monday the 30^th January when 180 delegates from Pfizer Nutrition arrived at the Heatherdale Children’s Home in Athlone to paint murals on an immense stretch of vibrecrete wall; paint their large play structure & cut an expanse of lawn.

All kitted out in their overalls and gloves, the staff got to work under the leadership of 6- NEWKIDZ team members.

Pfizer blessed the children and staff at this Home with a scrumptious Nando’s burger & chips lunch while they kept working against the clock to finish on time.

The top management of Pfizer also rolled up their sleeves and constructed three 3m x 3m SABS approved Wendy Houses at a separate project and donated these at a function at the Blowfish Restaurant in Blaauwbergstrand to

• Masizama Youth Cultural Group in Khayelitsha
• NEWKIDZ on the block

The children from the Masizama Youth Cultural Group were very excited to perform at the restaurant for the Pfizer managers. They looked beautiful in their outfits, beads and facial paint and sang with all their hearts. Up until this day they had been practicing in the streets of Khayelitsha as they didn’t have a venue for this purpose but now they are the proud owners of a brand new, waterproof Wendy House. A special word of thanks goes to Pfizer Nutrition for bringing joy to the children of Heatherdale Children’s Home; Mfuleni & Khayelitsha

As part of the Pfizer Nutrition Team Build initiative, NEWKIDZ on the block will facilitate this project by bringing colour to the Heatherdale Children’s Home play ground in just one afternoon.

Yes, in just one afternoon, 180 delegates will:

• paint a huge expanse of 244 x 1.8metre high vibrecrete panels;
• repair and paint a large wooden jungle gym and
• mow a very large lawn area in just 2½ hours

The 43 boys and girls who live at this Home are stunning young people who deserve to live in a colourful environment until they are either reunited with their families or fostered / adopted into loving families.

As NEWKIDZ on the block says, “there is no such thing as an unwanted child, just an unfound family” Pfizer Nutrition will help to fill the gap for these children in this small way until families are found for them.

A giant thank you to Ackermans for entrusting NEWKIDZ on the block with the extremely generous donation of clothing and shoes late last year.

• A number of unemployed families in the Kraaifontein area

• A family who lost all their possessions in a fire – Paarl
• House to your destiny – place of safety for abused women and children – Matroosfontein
• Touch the hem of His garment – organization who care for abused women – Lotus River
• Nokhwezi EduCare – Mfuleni
• Uyesu Unathi Church – Khayelitsha
• We have made arrangements for the single / sample shoes to go to the Orthopedic Division at Lentegeur Hospital.

The donations were either delivered in person to each of these facilities / families or the managers collected from our distribution area. We trust that you are happy with the manner in which we distributed these items and that should this opportunity arise in the future, that Ackermans will look favourably on NEWKIDZ on the block once again.

We received a number of messages of gratitude from the recipients and it was such a blessing to give to those less fortunate than ourselves especially over Christmas time … the time for giving.
